Intermediate Art Department

Hi, My name is Catherine Chiles and I teach 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Art at Redwater Intermediate School, and I am excited about beginning my 2nd year as a Dragon!
First let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I have taught art at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels for 9 years, so this will be my 10th year as a teacher. My favorite medium to use is Acrylic and Watercolor paint, and I love to paint landscapes. I have a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Winthrop University , specializing in Painting and Drawing . I also enjoy experimenting with other art forms, such as weaving, photography, and jewelry making.
This year, the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students will continue to learn about the Elements and Principles of Art in order to develop a foundation and appreciation for the fundamentals of visual art.  In addition, my aim is to offer training in the basic techniques of artistic production so that students may better express their ideas in 2D and 3D form. In other words, I hope to guide students in bringing their imaginative ideas to life in the form of drawings, paintings, collages,  and sculptures. Intermediate students will be introduced to a wide variety of styles and techniques in art this year, from many different cultures and traditions.

I greatly enjoyed teaching at RISD last year, and I am continually amazed at the talent , heart, and creativity that my students show every day in art class. It is truly a privilege to work with them.
In addition, I will continue to manage the Destination Imagination teams so that they can compete in the Regional Tournament in 2024. The DI teams are comprised of the 4th,5th,and 6th Grade GT students.
